How I Turned Consistency Into Real Discipline

Everyone knows that if you want to be
successful in anything, you just need two
things – Consistency and Discipline.

We all know this, right?
We’ve all heard it.

In interviews of successful people,
from our role models, from our teachers,
in school, in college – everywhere –
this is what we’ve always heard.

And we even know that it’s true.

But still, we just can’t seem to follow
it….right?

This is actually my biggest problem…
Do you also struggle with the same thing?

You’re Consistent…But Are
You Disciplined?

I was Consistent…Now I Want More.

But then something really clicked for me –
there’s actually one big and very simple
difference between discipline and consistency.
and if we truly understand this difference
properly, maybe we’ll finally be able to keep
this commitment to ourselves.

I always used to think that if I was consistent,
that was enough for me.

But slowly I realized that with consistency, I
am working hard every day – yet there is no
real focus in that effort, and I’m not fully
understanding or giving my complete
attention to the work.

Doing the same work every day with
stability is good thing.

But if you truly want to make progress and
achieve success, focus is very important in
that work.

And not just being focused – you have to be
focused every single day.

For that, discipline is very important. Without
determination, work can still get done – you can
even work every day.

But making real progress, learning something,
analyzing your work, and staying focused –
that is simply not possible without it.

So I had understood this much – that if I want
to do something big, I need both consistency
and discipline.

I was already consistent. I had learned how to
stay reliable.

But now it was time to become disciplined.
Which I wasn’t at all.

If You Can Stay Consistent, You’re
Closer To Discipline Than You Think.

While learning this, I realized that there is a
difference between consistency and
discipline.

But if we genuinely choose to follow it, that
difference can actually become a very simple
one.

There is one thing common between
consistency and determination – doing the same
work every single day.

Even if you’re tired.
Even if it feels boring.
Even if you’re not in the mood.

Still showing up and doing that one task daily
without making excuses for yourself – that’s
consistency & discipline.

Till here, everything is clear, right?

I was already consistent.
Now it was time to become disciplined…

The Final Step: Self-Mastery

All I had to do now was just one simple thing.

Make a daily to-do list.
Follow that list according to fixed time slots.

Set specific timings for your tasks in your
mind.
Even if the work gets shuffled during the day,
that’s okay – but the time should remain
fixed. ( This way the work doesn’t feel boring,
and it’s followed with real structure.)

If you complete your work throughout the
week – in any order – but consistently stick
to those fixed time slots,

then you can eventually fix separate timings
for both work and leisure as well.

If I followed everything properly, then Sunday
was a full holiday – I did whatever I wanted.

That’s it. I kept doing this every day. The
consistency was already there – I just fixed
the timing for hard work and leisure.

More time for hard work, less time for
distractions.

If I followed this for the whole week, I gave
myself a half-day off on sunday as a reward. If
the work was completed properly, I rewarded
myself. If not, I worked more.

And that’s how discipline slowly came into my life.

One thing became clear from this –

If you learn to be consistent just once,
you can cross the mountain of discipline
much more easily later.

Consistency : keep working every day
even if it’s just for one hour,

Discipline : give that work a fixed time,
increase your hard-work hours, and reduce
your time spent on distractions.

Learn consistency first – then you’ll need to
take just one step toward discipline.

Do you think my analysis is correct?

What do consistency and discipline mean to
you?
Please share – I would love to hear that.
