How to Apologize When Sorry Isn’t Enough

This Weekend, my mom and I had a little disagreement.

At that time, I realized I’d gotten more angry than I should have. My mom was upset, and I felt really guilty for behaving like that.

And I’m the kind of person who knows I should say sorry, but I just can’t bring myself to say it. Sometimes because I feel it might make things worse, and sometimes because I feel like saying ‘sorry’ wouldn’t be enough.

That’s why, whenever I make a mistake, I choose my own way of apologizing instead of just saying sorry.

And this time, my funda worked, friends. I felt that when we try different little ways, we can earn forgiveness and even put a smile on the other person’s face.

My Different Way of saying sorry

After a small argument between my mom and me, she went out to spend some time with her friends and the neighborhood aunties, and I was the only one left at home.

Because I was the only one at home, my mom was going to cook food for me after coming back – something I myself had asked her to do, since I don’t know how to cook.

After my mom left, I kept feeling guilty. I was like, Yaar, I really messed up. I shouldn’t have raised my voice at mom. I made a huge mistake, and all those thoughts just kept running in my head…bla bla bla.

Then I realized that I had to say sorry, no matter what.

I always create my own ways to apologize.

And I keep coming up with different ways to apologize every time –

It totally depends on the person in front of me and what kind of approach will work with them.

So before my mom came home, I finished all the household chores.

Dish washing, sweeping the house, and most importantly, cooking. Yes, by watching YouTube videos and asking people around me for help. Slowly, with a few mistakes here and there, I managed to cook my own food.

And then, as soon as my mom came home, she was surprised to see that all the household work was done and the food was already cooked.

Seeing all this, my mom was really very happy.

Then I smiled and said, “This is my way of apologizing” and after that…well, my mom melted instantly.

And then our little fight turned into patch-up time.

Apologize using such little tricks isn’t really that hard. You can try it too.

Have you ever apologized by doing something like this too? I’d love to hear your story.
